howdy Rv Gang,
planning on going to coast to coast and back. starting from los angeles and ending up in NC or SC. planning on going down the southern route following the border and making stops as needed, i have an RV7a. what are you thoughts on items i should bring along? so far i have tie downs tubes and cloths ( sleeping bag thinking of sleeping at the airport for fun) . also some places i should stop along the way?

yes if you are taking the southern route definitely go see The War Eagles Air Museum located at the Doña Ana County Airport at Santa Teresa near El paso. It's a somewhat hidden gem and very cool.

Sounds like a great adventure..I'm jealous, it's on my list to do one day, reverse route of you. I'm in central NC at 8A7, Good little airport to weather out, camp at, or stay at my house next to the airport. I have lots of resources in the area if you need anything when your over here near the Right Coast.

small squeeze bottle of brake fluid, couple of O rings, couple of brake linings already mounted, spare tube, spare tyre, 4" square of 4x4, spare gas cap with good gasket, small bottle jack (actually use it and verify you can get the wheel off), of course all the hand tools needed to remove/install wheel, screw drivers, spare screws, washers, fuses, lithium power pack to jump start the engine, and a way to use it and disconnect once started.

We just got back flying our -9A from Livermore, CA to Bar Harbor, ME and back again. Switched to a northern from a southern route on the way out when Oklahoma was covered by late spring thunderboomers. Landed in Norman on the way back to see a friend at the U of OK.

Not even the smallest squawk the whole trip (53 hours on the Hobbs, 6,110 nm through the air), so I could have swapped out the traveling tool kit for another gallon of 100LL. Of course, having the tool kit aboard is what kept the gremlins away. 😜

Never had to sleep in an FBO lounge or an open hangar. We found out hotels advertising a shuttle don’t really mean it a lot of the time. But always found a ride eventually.

Keep your eyes on the in-cockpit weather, assume it’s 30 minutes old, and aim for the places that they were moving away from.

And remember, if you aren’t trying to meet a schedule, you’ll never be late.

Your adventure calls!
