Hey folks -

I'd like to send out some steel parts to get chromed - and living in California quality work has become both difficult to find and very expensive. Anyone have a recommendation for an awesome plater you've enjoyed working with?

thanks tons,

AG

Quaker City Plating in Los Angeles does a bunch of airplane interior stuff. I think it'd be worth at least asking them.

Be careful chrome plating structural parts. Some chroming processes can cause brittleness in the steel.

+1 on Spacecoast. They did my Cummings aluminum spinner on my RV6 several years ago. Looks awesome and holding up perfectly.

Chrome plating

Agree with Mel...Be careful plating structural due to brittleness and CHROME hides internal cracks.
I have used Sanchez Polishing & Plating in San Diego in the past for show motorcycle plating and they did BEAUTIFUL work.

Can You Say - Hydrogen Embrittlement For The 4130 Alloy?

Unless your "vendor" is familiar with the above, and knows how to deal with it, I would shy away from their services - for "loaded" structural parts.

YMMV - But you might want to read up on the potential for that happening.
