I am quickly running out of space for my 2 year old in my RV-7A. I have been considering options for removable mounts for the car seat, and I would be interested in what others have done before. Please let me know if you have implemented and what pictures you might have.

Thanks,
Scott

Right seat or baggage compartment? Should be pretty easy to use existing seat belts or anchors for a car seat on the right side. Slider or tip-up?

I did install 3 anchors in the baggage compartment so I can clip in a standard car seat in the baggage area on my 7. You can see the top anchor by the top slider rail bolt and 1 of the ring tie downs near the floor. Haven't used them yet, we'll see.

Both bottom rings.

I made an anchor out of .125, tapped for the 3/8 eyebolt and JB welded an area washer and nut on the backside. Blind riveted into the floor rib and fuse bulkhead. I drilled a hole in the aft cover for easy removal.

For the top ring I made a .063 doubler/gusset for more support behind the bulkhead.

Somewhere on this forum are pictures of my son riding in the baggage compartment of my -9.

On this page of my website I detail how I added tie down rings in the baggage compartment. When he was really small his seat had clips that attached to the rings. When he grew into a booster seat, I used an airline lapbelt somone on this forum sent me.

He would sit facing forward, with his legs on either side of the flap motor.

My son is now five and just hit 40 lbs but is too tall to fit back there.

If you are going to do this, PM me your address and I'll send you the lap belt.

Good point raised about head room. I installed hard points for a child seat in the last 7A I built. I also created a bit more head space by cutting off the excess length of the canopy center rail & moving the ready rod strut up by about 1 1/4". I than fabricated a protective cover (sort of 3sided box screwed to the bulkhead) to box in the rail, padded and upholstered it. This cover also served well as an attachment point to mount weatherstripping to seal the drafts in that area.

Now the kiddie's head is protected, you should think of ways to protect their fingers from getting cut or caught on those side diagonal stiffeners.
