Building a tip up RV7 and was curious if there is any "sealant" applied between the canopy and the outer skins for waterseal? I was looking in the "20 something years in RVator" book and remember a reference to a seal or foam something between. Any suggestions?

I believe he was talking about the side skirts and turtle-deck, not the frame-to-fuselage joints. I used Sika on my canopy, so that was also the sealant between the plexi and skins. I believe that others doing the screwed-on canopy have used both black RTV and pro-seal successfully.

I had good luck with clear Lexel sealant. It is paintable and safe on plexi. Not flying yet so YMMV!

Clear silicone works ok but you can see it from the inside of the plane. I used it to seal my rear window.

Since the subject is "canopy weatherstrip", an excellent product for weatherstripping the tip up canopy RAILS is McMaster p/n 1120A712. It works Very well.

Will pro-seal affect the plexi? Not too keen on the silicone, have not been able to clean it off without leaving a greasy looking smear. Any suggestions on how?
