Is there a specific time when to drill the rear canopy slide to the aft top skin? I would like to use nutplates instead of the nylon nuts and later don?t want to drill into the primed skin.

I have a gap where the slide goes into the rail receptacle, but it sits flush on the forward end on the receptacle where it is filed slanted.

Canopy slide

Using the nutplates might not be worth the trouble . Pretty easy to use nylocks as called out . I replaced the .063 alum with Stainless Steel and eliminated the rivets , looks much better .

Ny-locs

You can do it anyway you like. Most of us use the Ny-Locs as it makes it better to service and paint down the road. Plate nuts sounds good too, and the stainless idea sounds like an old classic car with those stainless thresholds. Nice touch. Yours. R.E.A. III #80888

P.S. : You paint it just before you install the rails, or unbolt the rails after you have it together and are ready to paint it all..
