I'm getting ready to install the canopy skirt on the plexi and wanted to know if it would be best to use some chalking between the two pieces.

HI Adam,

I put a very thin layer of 3M marine sealant/adhesive between the skirt and the plexi where they touch each other. I had heard of folks saying that water could seep in there, and I just felt better having a little bit of a "gasket" to keep them from working against each other. No problems after 370 hours.

I used "Lexel", a clear sealant I found at a hardware store. Its a very good idea, doesn't cost much.

I mounted the skirt dry but didn't like the looks of the where the skirt ended and the canopy began. I was also worried about rain leaking in. I decided to "caulk" the joint with a 1/16 inch bead. I had heard about Lexel and tried it unsuccessfully. It skins over very quickly (short working time). I finally got it all off and used proseal instead. Turned out ok.

I use West system epoxy there, I mix in a good amount of 403 flox too.
