What are some ways to get shade under the canopy?

I tried the clingy window tinting and various other things. Eventually I went for the Kroger $unshade - it works well.

I have four Suncutter suction cup automotive style stick-up sun shades. Put 'em where you want 'em, they weigh virtually nothing, they coil up into virtually zero volume when not in use, and did I mention you can put 'em where you want 'em? No mods or adhesive necessary. About $6 for a 2-pack. http://www.autobarn.com sells 'em.

I used to have just two of them. Now I have an extra two which I leave up in my rear windows (tip-up canopy RV-7) full time. I have noticed it does keep the cockpit cooler with 'em back there full time during hot sunny weather.

I like my Koger. It blocks the sun most of the time when needed.

Kroger Shades

How much does the Kroger shade reduce heat in the cockpit? We are getting a lot of 100 degree days in Kansas.

I've got a Koger sunshade in my Koger RV. ;) In the 100+ Texas sun, the difference is VERY noticeable. Haven't measured the temperature difference, but you can sure feel it when the sun is behind the shade vs. beating down on you.

No doubt the Koger sun shade works well...but...

This morning I took off at 4:52am. I headed east, and the sunrise was pretty much directly ahead of me. For the first 20 minutes or so, my left hand was my sun shade.

As the sun got higher in the sky, since I was using the suction cup stick-up shades, I was able to put them pretty far forward on my tip-up canopy. They blocked the sun nicely. The Koger sun shade definitely wouldn't have been able to extend that far forward -- wouldn't have done diddly this morning!

This afternoon as I flew a heading of 070 in the late afternoon, the sun was to my left rear. I was able to stick the suction cup stick-up shades biased to the left side and it did what I needed it to.

Just advocating cheap & functional. It works where you need it to.
