FYI...

I added a 2nd ADAHRS to my Skyview system and was setting up for the compass calibration using a precision compass as truth data. Noticed when within 12" of the canopy frame the compass would swing wildly. Walking the perimeter of the frame the compass will show where the polarity shifts.

Keep your ADAHRS far away from the canopy frame...
 
Degausing

An extension cord with a shop light plugged in and turned on wrapped around or otherwise bunched up around a magnetized steel part will degauss it overnight.
 
Aviat had that problem from MIG welding the Huskies. Soution was a bulk tape eraser run over all the tubing.
 
Legend is that Aeronca had a significant problem as fuse frames went down the line pointed north/south as opposed to east and west. The pounding on the frames allowed them to pick up magnetism from the earth's field. Other companies knew of this problem and built accordingly. My father was a final assembly welder there.
