Vans recommends the heatbox be installed on the port side of the firewall, just below the horizontal firewall longeron in the IO-360 layout.
I would like to install mine on the starboard (right) side, so that I can run a scat hose from the box, though the forward baggage compartment, to an eyeball vent that will be mounted in the lower baggage compartment wall facing the pilot. I have the stainless steel heater box that has a cable forward of the firewall to open it. Vans drawing OP-34 seems to assume that we will use the type of heater box that just dumps warm air into the cabin near your feet.
I would like to define the firewall penetration points and make the holes before I install my engine mount and engine. Of course the problem is that I don't want to plan now to mount hardware in places where other things must go.......but I don't know where those places are.
Any advice would be appreciated.
