Is it necessary to tie all the wires together inside the black conduit in the wing. I can't imagine it would prevent chafing or the like.

Is there a benefit to it?

According to AC43-13, wire bundles in conduit should not be laced. That way you could R&R a single wire without removing the whole bundle. Probably helps with heat buildup as well.
 
And while we're on the subject, consider putting a pull-string in there for pulling a wire through the conduit in the future. I put a simple strand of twine in mine for that purpose.
