OK....so how the heck do you torque the alternator belt to 140 inch pounds if the darn engine just turns over as I turn the alternator pulley? (No prop on yet)

Actually, I am a little surprised that the engine turns over so easily (new IO-320), but is there a way to stop it so that i can set the belt tension properly?

Sometimes these simple things frustrate the heck out of me and take far too much time!

A 1 X 2 piece of oak board about 2' long. Drill a couple holes to match the prop flange and bolt it to the flange. Provides a handle to hold while you turn the alternator nut while checking the belt slip torque.

Put on a work glove and hold onto the flywheel/starter ring.

Tried holding the flywheel. Didn?t work for me, but thnx.

Just make sure to check it again after you have put the prop on - there can be a small change in geometry sometimes, unless you have the flywheel torqued to speck.

Personally, I don't do alternator belt tension until after mounting the prop, but there is more than one way to skin a feline....
