I thought it might be a good idea to start a thread where we can report issues with the upgrade process and possibly share the fixes.
I think my upgrade was fairly vanilla, 2 touch screens, 245 audio panel, GTR20 comm 2, 507 autopilot controller, GTX45R and a GTN650 XI. It was a Stein built panel and system.
Transponder and GTN650 were wired together on the HSDB.
I received the new screens and the Sten upgrade install kit late Thursday and started the work on Friday. Stein provides a wiring diagram and upgrade instruction and all pretty straight forward. On boot up the first thing I encountered was a data base error. I then went into configuration and begin installing the LRU’s. I am still unable to get it to recognize the GTR20 comm 2.
The data base error comes up on each boot up. I called garmin and had my data bases converted to AXIS with the IFR package. I’ve tried just about everything but no mater what it runs through the syncing of all the databases into standby and says to reboot to make them active, but on each reboot the nav database fails to install and I get data base error . I’ve tried making two disks option where the GTN is updated with the SD card and the AXIS screen with the USB-C drive amd it still refuses to update the NAV data base. As a result I cannot manage all the flight plan options on AXIS.
Other issues I’ve found, on engine setup I select lycoming 4 cylinder but it won’t save it.
I was able to restore fuel tank calibrations, but had to make sure those two files were in the same directly they created when exported or AXIS won’t find them.
if I can get data bases installed and restore IFR functionality TO AXIS and get the GTR20 online I’ll have most things working.
I’m a little disappointed that my GDL51 and CO detector are not supported yet.

The GTR 20 is like caused by a missing ID strap that identifies it as COM2 on the CAN Bus. Had the same issue with the GTR200.

That was the answer, so I’ve got com 2 up now. 👍. Still working on the database issue. I tried to enable data base sync in the GTN 650xi but it’s greyed out. Went into config on the GTN and enabled it in config settings, but it is still greyed out after booting into normal mode and going to settings page.
I did read somewhere that if the internal clocks between the GTN and the Axis screens don’t match perfectly it will disable sync option. I’ll pull the airplane out and get GPS position to update clocks and try to install again.

Did you do all the mandatory software updates prior to pulling the GDU460's? The required GTN software just became available on the dealer website late Friday afternoon (7/17/26).
