My EAA Chapter, 846 at Wadsworth Skypark Airport, will be hosting an Avionics Seminar on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012. I believe that there might be some folks interested in attending this all-day program, which promises to be very informative!
Let me know if you are interested, as seating will be limited. My contact info is at the bottom.
The following is from our Press Release:
You don't have to go to Oshkosh to get expert avionics advice. Come to Wadsworth, Ohio, on September 8 and spend the entire day in a workshop and meet with leading experimental avionics manufacturers' representatives on a one-on-one basis.
Representatives from Dynon Avionics, Advanced Flight Systems, and Grand Rapids Technologies will be available to provide hands-on demonstrations of their products. Aerotronics, Inc., a leading fabricator of "Plug and Play" instrument panels for experimental aircraft, will walk attendees through the process of planning and designing a panel for their homebuilt aircraft.
Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Chapter 846 will host the all-day event at Wadsworth Skypark Airport which will concentrate on the planning for the electrical and avionics systems in homebuilt aircraft. This event, held on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012, will begin at 8 a.m. and end when everyone's questions have been answered, or around 6 p.m. The event will take place in the meeting room at Wadsworth Skypark Airport and cost $50 per attendee. The cost includes the workshop, breakfast pastries, drinks and lunch.
Mr. Gary Wirrell, Experimental Division Manager at Aerotronics, Inc., will be reviewing all aspects of the electrical system that may go into an experimental aircraft. Mr. Wirrell will go through the design process of an electrical system after the builder has determined the mission of the aircraft to be either VFR or IFR. Antenna placement and installation will be covered, as well as the pitot-static system. Aerotronics, Inc. has the technical expertise to assist with any electrical need. Builders can receive continuing support throughout the project from the Aerotronics staff if the builder purchases a "Plug and Play" instrument panel. www.aerotronics.com
Mr. Wirrell will be joined by Kirk Kleinholz of Dynon Avionics, an established company that produces quality EFIS and engine monitoring systems, as well as autopilots. Mr. Kleinholz will have products on hand so that participants can observe the capabilities of various glass instruments, which can replace the "steam gauges." Installation and operating questions will be answered. Dynon Avionics designs, manufactures and distributes a growing line of affordable glass cockpit avionics. Operated by aviation enthusiasts, Dynon utilizes the very latest state-of-the-art technologies to create modern avionics products with an emphasis on lowering prices and enhancing reliability. www.dynonavionics.com
Rob Hickman, founder/owner of Advanced Flight Systems, will demonstrate the capabilities of his EFIS, engine monitoring systems and angle of attack alert systems. Started in 1999, Advanced Flight Systems is a classic entrepreneurial story. An electrical engineer with software expertise, founder/owner Rob Hickman began building his own engine monitor during construction of his RV-4. As new products are introduced, AFS knows its success is built on customer support. Through its growing installed base of engine monitors, AOA systems, and now EFIS displays, Advanced is proud of the solid reputation it has earned. www.advanced-flight-systems.com
Grand Rapids Technologies, Inc., will have Greg Toman and Todd Stehouwer, owners, in attendance. GRT began in 1991 and its Engine Information System (EIS) has become the industry standard and instrumented over 25,000 engines, from small 2-stroke to turbines, all around the world. www.grtavionics.com
This type of avionics program has never been offered in the Cleveland, OH, area and should help increase homebuilders' knowledge in this part of their build. Seating will be limited. Registration and hotel information can be found on EAA Chapter 846's website: www.846.eaachapter.org. Questions can be emailed to Gary Baker at ggbaker (at) zoominternet.net. Wadsworth Skypark Airport (15G) is located at 3801 Greenwich Road, Wadsworth, OH 44281 and is 23 miles south of Cleveland Hopkins Airport. www.skyparkaviatorsclub.com
