does anyone have the size/location for the autopilot control unit location on the instrument panel. I would like to have the hole cut prior to paint/powdercoating the panel. Any info would be helpful. Thanks

Autopilot cut out

Kyle,
The cutout for the AP74 is made using a drill template that comes with the autopilot kit. The part number is F-12174B. You may be able to buy it from Van's, or if you can not I will send you my used one if you promise to pass it on to the next person who needs it.
Also, you should make the cut out with the Dynon mounting tray riveted to the panel as the cut takes a portion of the mounting tray and a bit of the rivets with it.

Also, if you finish the panel by paint or powdercoat now, you will need to take enormous care to mask and protect it from any resin drips when you are doing the canopy fiberglass layups later which would pretty much ruin the finish.

AP74 cutout

Quote from Dynon manual: AP74 MOUNTING: make a rectangular cutout (oriented either vertically or horizontally, depending on instrument version ordered) of 1.45? by 4.75? (3.69 cm by 12.07 cm).

Like Tony says, you had better use the template because the AP74 must fit adjacent to the D-180. If I remember correctly, the AP74 mounting bracket is attached to the D-180 tray.

Thanks guys ...

For my own understanding; have the Dynon tray riveted up to the panel, due to "shaving" of the tray and rivets.

The picture helped out ... and Tony, check your Pm's .. i sent you some contact info.
