Has anyone out there tried to do a retrofit install of the new -iS ?Assist Handle? to a older fuselage? If so, what issues did you run across?

Just finished installing the assist handle in my D-180 equipped 12. Not hard to do but there is no kit that I am aware of. I just ordered the separate parts and installed them.
Bought the parts a year ago but reluctant to drill all those holes through the instrument compartment cover. I wonder if the new brace could be bonded to the cover rather than riveted?
