when labeling the switches and controls on the panel.

For Example

SWITCHES

| ALT | BAT | AVI | LND | STB | NAV | PUMP | CBN | PNL | CP-DSC |

cONTROLS

|THRTL | MIX | CRB | CBN.

Thanks

I did some of them that way, my inspector was fine with them.

My suggestion would be to ask whoever you plan to have do the inspection.

Good luck, sounds like it is getting close:D

The FAA words for certification are -

(b) Be labeled as to its identification, function, or operating limitations, or any applicable combination of these factors;...

Sounds like clear abbreviations are OK...

I think they also want direction labeled (the function bit above), such as "Push for ON" and ON/OFF for switches.

"Obvious" abbreviations are fine.
Several of yours aren't obvious to me.
What is AVI?
If STB is "strobe", it should be at least "STRB LT".
NAV should be at least "NAV LT".
PUMP should be at least "FUEL PUMP" or "BOOST PUMP".
CBN & PNL...are these lights?
You need to be a little more specific.
Whatever you use should be, at a minimum, obvious to anyone reading this forum.

| CRB | CBN.

I'm positing myself as a generic potential pilot who's climbed into the plane and tried to see what I could about it. These are the ones that I didn't understand right off.

STB probably means standby, but what? And if it means starboard, again, what?

NAV refers to which system?

PUMP probably refers to the fuel pump or less likely the oil pump, but if it's an annunciator light it might be either. And if it were on a Globe Swift it could also be the hydraulic system, and refer to both the landing gear and the flaps.

The others are more obscure, at least for me.

Also, I'd prefer fewer acronyms and would accept smaller fonts to achieve that. But that's just me. You've probably already realized that I tend to be more wordy than necessary.

Abbreviations

My aircraft passed inspection with abbreviations labeled. I used only standard abbreviations. You should be OK.
