I plan on installing a Byonics Mikro-Trak RTG and GPS2 in my wingtip. I'd like to use the GPS puck as a backup for my Skyview. I asked the folks at Byonics if the fanout of the GPS could handle the distance and they said that it could. Can anyone confirm that the GPS2 will drive both an APRS and EFIS inputs?

The output of the GPS2 is NMEA 0183 for RS-232 connection. That is pretty standard, so if your EFIS (Dynon ) accepts that input then it will work. I believe most do. RS-232 is a 5 VDC signal which will not even notice the distances covered in our aircraft.

I went a similar route and bought an external GPS to drive both the APRS and be secondary for my GRT Sport.
