I searched the archives and found someone who used a three wheeler and built a tow bar, but the post was so old that the photos have vanished.

Anyone using a 3 or 4-wheeler with a homebuilt towbar, to move your A-model aircraft?

Thanks-

Seen it done many times.

*But* do not try to do this with a conventional gear plane from the tailwheel. Because you will eventually attempt to back the plane (forward - plane) and this will quite likely result in a very bad outcome. (As the tailwheel breaks over the empennage meets the tug...).

I occasionally tow our tail wheel planes with a cheap old Yardman garden tractor w/ hydrostat drive. I use a ratchet strap, tie it on the tail rod and hook it to the tractor. Pull only, no backing up.
It can be a little swervey (is that a word?) so I have a wing walker or we stop before I get close enough to bump anything.
My son uses a yard tractor and a Aero specialties 34R universal tow bar. So far, I like that best (for a store bought thing)
