My best skill seems to be taking perfectly good working machines and making them non-functional.
Started on the panel and prop updates finally. I waited 'til it got good and hot in the hangar to start. Out with the old (but very nice VFR panel) and installing a dual AFS5600/Avidyne 540 IFR panel. The builder of this aircraft did a phenomenal job on the wiring, but I'd guess this plane had 6000 zipties and half as many connectors. A total of 8 dual terminal strips were located behind the panel and under the seat pans. After tracing out as many wires as I could, and not making much progress, I just cut everything out except the egt and cht sensor wires. With the new AFS ECM not many would be used anyway. At least now I'll have a good understanding on how everything is wired. May was occupied with the prop swap from a sensinech fixed pitch to a WW151 and governor install. June started the panel removal, new antenna installation (vor in wingtip and Comm2 on the fuselage, moved the ELT to the empennage), and heated pitot install, interrupted by 2 weeks of travel.
Now the wires have been run from the wings and tail to the dash, so the dash install can start.... finally.
