I ordered 80 off AN507-632-R8 screws expecting to recieve cadmium plated. The supplier has shipped some that are flat grey (carbon steel?). Does anyone know what the spec for AN507 is. Did I order wrongly or have I been supplied wrongly. How is the cad plating specified?

Thanks, Steve.

There might be a grey version of cadmium plating. Lots of the screws I got from Van's were grey.

Try this link for data. It gives free access to available government specs.

Unfortunately the upkeep of many of the old MS and AN specs have been taken over by the likes of SAE and NAS and are no longer available for free. This is the case for AN507. It's now an NASM, something, something, something.

Steve.. they got replaced by MS24693 screws... the later spec is here...

It does call out the type of cad. plating required... but I don't have a copy of that spec. - but most AN hardware does call out a gold iridite final finish on cad plating.

Can the screws be picked up with a magnet? Perhaps you got SS ones?

Would it be Better to order them with the MS part number?

UPDATE

It appears the QQ-P-416 does require a color after plating (unless otherwise specified, which is not the case)

http://www.techplate.com/cadmium.htm

"Unless otherwise specified, chromate treatment required for Type II is distinctly colored iridescent bronze to brown including olive drab, yellow and forest green"

Perhaps the EU got to your screws and banned cadmium plating, and you have equivalent screws with some other coating?

Yes, they are magnetic and no they are not stainless. They are for the wing tips and having put them on with stainless I decided to change to what I consider the 'standard' cad plated ones. hence I was a bit put out when these arrived. They are grunge grey and slightly chalky.

Its a supplier who i havnt dealt with for many years in the uK because the last time I did he ripped me off. I was trying to decide whoes fault this time!

I thought the stndard for all the AN fastner hardware is/was cad.

Cheers, Steve.
