OK guys, when I driiled the hole through the spar flange/leading edge skin for the pitot tube elbow, and tightened the nut on the lower side, it seemed to 'shank out' before securing the elbow. (I could still spin it) Is this a common issue? Here is a picture of my proposed solution.

I fabricated a small doubler to fit inside the spar flange, that will pick up the rivet either side of the 7/16 hole for the elbow. (It still needs cleaned up) I temp installed it to try it and it seems to work great. Anyone see any problems with this?

I don't have a problem with that, but normally you sandwich a couple big AN970 washers on a bulkhead fitting.

AN elbow

The problem with using a washer on top, is that the center of the hole is only 1/2" from the spar web. That only leaves about 1/4" from the edge of the hole. Unless you grind the washer flat till it fits. :) Guess that is the answer.

Thanks,
