I still cannot get my ammeter to respond. Need to test the meter itself. I have a 40 amp alternater, and 40 amp shunt and meter from Vans. Tried switching wires, checked continuity, and wire diagram. Any suggestions? Thanks

Failure mode?

I've been through 3 of these ammeters in 3 years, each time it was working fine one day and then would go full scale discharge the next and stay there as long as power was on. What's yours doing when power is on? It's a good thing they're pretty cheap to replace.

Power?

I am sure that you hooked up +12v and a ground to the power terminals on the gage. Hope you didn't get the two sets of terminals confused. I would never do anything like that, nor have I.

Otherwise, bad gage, or bad shunt, or broken wire in the run to the shunt.
