Hey guys-

Looking at buying some sheet aluminum for some modifications to our -6..

I got some new eye-ball vents from Stein, I need to build some brackets..
I want to replace a switch panel, so I need some aluminum for that..
I also want to remove our center control column and make a new bracket for the throttle, mixture, etc..

I'm looking at thicknesses... I was looking at .025 for some items, but think something thicker would be better..

I've got some parts in the shop from Van's that appear to be .045 but can only find .040 and .050..

Just thought I'd see what the guru's thought..

Thanks

Jeff

My bet is that if you measure that stuff carefully, you'll find that it's .040. The extra .005 is probably due to an edge burr or paint or blue plastic.

I'd look at

.063 for the control bracket. I think that's what Van's is, and you want this part to be pretty stiff. The vents (I have Steins too, work great) could be .032 or .040.
