I'm just wondering if anyone has had experience with using adhesives other than Pro-seal. (i'm not buying pro-seal till I get to the tanks). I am looking forward in my project when I need to install aluminum strips for nutplates on fiberglass tips, or secure zip tie pads for tubing and wiring, etc.

I have used Dow 3145 RTV on the ends of rudder/elevator stiffeners before riveting. Just not sure that it is always the best 'glue' to use in other areas. I see in the Stewart S51 build manual they recommend using 3M 2216 structural adhesive in conjunction with the build on some items, but this seems extreme for non critical areas.

What are other builders using for adhesive other than pro-seal? Do I stock up on 3145 RTV?? Or just use west systems epoxy??

Any thoughts?

My 2 cents

I am a structural specialist on large aircraft for my day job. I work daily with all the variations of Proseal type adhesives, as well as the 3M products, including 2216. The 2216 was specifically developed for bonding metal to plastic, fiberglass ect., and is my industry favorite for what your looking at. I would use Proseal just as as well as both handle the different expansion properties of a bi-material joint. I avoid RTV,s at all cost unless I'm looking for a high temperature sealing or bonding. The Proseal and 2216 are easily paintable and last forever.

Hysol

I used 9309 on my trailing edges, bonding one skin at a time and riveting with NAS 1097AD 3-X. Very happy.
Hey Fixnflyguy, what adhesives are hydroscopic? Hysol 934 was causing corrosion issues, Was it reformulated with the "NA" designation?

Trailing edges

3M 5200 quick cure!! Home Depot. Very
Strong bond. Use it extensively in marine world.
Call it 52 million. This is a permanent bond!!

As messy to work with as Proseal. Wear gloves!
