The instructions say "the filter must be compressed between the mount and air box...To compress the filter, mount the top plate 1/16 inch below the top of the filter. Screw the mount plate to the top plate and place the filter between the assembly and air box. Compress the filter 1/16 and when satisfied drill..."

Totally understand why it needs to be compressed but my question is - how do you do it? Do you place a 1/16 shim between the mount and top plate and use the screws to compress it (i.e. set the height before you drill)? Or do you compress the filter only with brute force?

Just looking for the proper method. Kinda glad I have an IO model now... a lot less work on the air box... no carb heat door!

Thanks much.
