The G696 uses a mini USB connector to attach the XM antenna to the unit. Because of adjacent connectors (power, remote GPS antenna, audio) the XM cable is a right angle device that turns 90 degrees toward the rear of the unit. I wish to mount a 696 in an Air Gizmos panel dock, and mount the XM antenna on the firewall. Problem is the XM antenna cable is not long enough to reach from the firewall to the panel. I have 2 options:

Cut the antenna cable and splice in an extension. This is the least preferred method.

I did find an adapter online which is just the ticket (almost):

http://www.texascyclechrome.com/miniusbadaptergarmingps.aspx

However the description says "Special circuitry inside the adapter puts the GPS in charge mode." I don't know how this will work with the XM antenna. Does anyone know if this adapter would work?

Any other ideas?

Thanks

Matt, have you seen one with a 90 degree male connector? All I have seen is a 90 degree female connector.

It's hard to tell from the picture, but I checked the engineering drawing and it definitely has 90-degree connectors on both ends. :) There's one included with every 696, or you can buy a replacement here: https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=1237

good luck,
