Which one are you installing?

I am looking at the same upgrade when it is time for ADS-B compliance.

I know different Manufacturer's have different recommendations. AFS has theirs internal with a remote compass and Dynon has a external unit with remote compass in it.

The AHRS in both our -8 and the -3 are on the centerline, forward of the panel (underneath the forward top skin). Easy to access by removing the EFIS screens, and easy to get them square.

The AHRS(s) are built in to the Dynons in the -6....

Magnetometers are in the rear of the fuselage on all three.

GRT AHRS

I mounted my GRT AHRS for my RV12 EAB, back of the rear baggage bulk head wall it is off center by 12 -14 inchs.

I haven't had any issues.

Picture is not the best, but you get the idea

Similar to Paul, I have my GRT AHRS mounted forward of the panel.

Three reasons:

1) Wiring simplicity
2) Maintenance access
3) Ease of structural mounting parallel to aircraft axes.
