Good Morning All,

Yesterday I installed the aft window for the first time. Did not rivet anything yet. A couple of questions, looking ahead to final installation:

Should the edges of the plexiglass be finished in any way? Smoothed, deburred, whatever you might call it?

For final installation, should there be a bead of some type of sealant between the plexi and the skin? It seems that even though the fit seems pretty tight, there is a potential there for water to enter, especially if the slip stream was pushing it if one was to fly through a shower.

As always, the thoughts of older(?) and wiser builders greatly appreciated.

Hey John

Good idea to smooth up the perimeter. I used a die grinder with a 2" scotchbrite wheel, after sanding to general flatness. Puts a nice finish on it if you move along slowly, but keep moving. Don't final install the window until inspection time. Unless you plan upon flying in a lot of rain, anything you put on will be hard to take off again, and it is not called for in the instructions.
