Quick question:

Will the AFS Advanced Deck drive an AP over ARINC429 while getting it's GPS source from RS-232 (portable gps?) The reason why I ask is because I want to have my AP work should my 430W die so I'm thinking that sending GPS info to the AFS from both the 430W and portable will do the trick as long as the AFS can switch to using the portable as a GPS source.

If not I'll just connect the RS-232 TX from my portable to my trutrak directly which will make this work. Perhaps I should do this anyway, but I'm not thinking I'll loose my 430w and my EFIS at the same time.

Thoughts?

I don't have the TruTrak install manual in front of me but as I remember, you can connect RS-232 and ARINC 429 to the autopilot. ARINC 429 will come from your AFS ARINC Adapter and RS-232 will come from another GPS source. Using RS-232, you will basically be limited to heading hold if I remember correctly (sounds like you simply want a backup if the 430/W fails. That would do the trick.
