So I'm still a while from needing a motor, but if I want one from Vans, I'm going to have to order early next year.
I've been keeping a look out for second hand motors and an IO-360 A1B6D has come up as a possibility.
It has 5600hrs TTSN, 600hrs TSOH, and 70hrs since a bulk strip for a Prop strike. The prop was repaired an is still in service, no damage found to the motor.
Its from a 177RG thats been condemned for corrosion. Mechanic who passed this on to me says the motor is good.
Seller wants US$26K for it.
Considering an M1B from Vans is now $45K and an A1B6 is $55k.
Is it worth it? I'm going to have to store it for a few years (pickle it)
Do I wait and watch prices continue to rise as IO-360s become scarce?
Or is the market for IO-360s going to crash when all the covid builders have taken flight?
