After watching Dave Gamble's You Tube video of using the Dynon Skyview Autopilot Panel in his RV 12 I decided to install one in the 8.

I called "Up North Aviation" and had a template made. With the panel being painted I wanted to cut the hole with out chipping the paint.

Below is what I got, I had two punched out so the spacing would be perfect from the existing panel.
The fit was perfect and made making the cut out a simpler task. (hint hint Dynon)

I put a thin layer of clear anti chaff tape on the panel before cutting the hole and was lucky that I came through with out any chips in the paint.

To get auto trim the panel needs power in addition to being hooked up to the Skyview network. My trim was being controlled by my VPX box so it was a matter of moving trim servo leads from the VPX to the new panel and also the trim control wires.

The new autopilot panel takes a bit to get use to compared to the simplified version but the capabilities are amazing and for me I'm glad I installed it.

So What's left,
Its' been 6 months since 68TP took it's first flight, in that time it has accumulated over 100 hours, flown from the West coast to the East coast and back with a stop at Oshkosh. The next trip will be next month to Dallas TX for paint.

Yes, Dynon should sell the template. Those holes so close to each other are a major pain.

How bad was the wiring job? Did you splice into Van's wiring harness or make your own harness into the AV-5000?

The wiring is very easy if you don't use the trim functions. You just run a network cable from the screen or hub to the AP Panel. If both ports on the screen are already used, you can unplug one and plug it into the AP Panel, then run a cable from the other port on the AP Panel to the screen. Dynon makes things like this extremely simple with their network.
