I have purchased a Pitts S2A which I plan to fly for the next two years while I finish my RV-8 QB. (Yes, that long because I still have a day job and a very young family). At the risk of being branded as a heretic by Pitts aficionados, I am considering transplanting the AIO-360 engine with a composite three-blade propeller from the Pitts into the RV-8. I visualize using either a stock cowling or a Sam James holy cowl, as well as the inverted fuel and oil systems, and aft- placement of the battery. I am concerned about weight and forward-CG issues with this configuration, as I think the AIO-360 engine is heavier than its non-aerobatic siblings. The input of those in the know will be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a good plan to me. With the composite prop and aft located battery, I cannot believe you'd have a problem with the -8. But what are you going to do with a perfectly good but engineless Pitts??
