The light will be ok, but the instrument (what is it?) might not like DC.

Altimeter and airspeed. The 5VAC circuit is for lighting only on both.

this is not the way to go. by practicing a little ohm's law you will find that if 1 bulb burns out the voltage will now go higher. If you put a higher voltage on all the other bulbs, the others will start to burn out faster, depending on the voltage increase. If you use a 5 volt regulator chip instead, you would have a constant voltage no matter the current draw.
