What torque did you use on the 5/16 socket head shoulder bolt that hold the brake mount bracket on. It had 1/4-20 threads according to the plans?

Looking on line Grade 8 1/4-20 steel bolt looks to be about 100-120 in lbs depending on the source I looked at.

The plans don't specify a setting, and this is no AN hardware.

Thanks.

Typically

Typically shoulder bolts are primarily Shear Fasteners.
AC 43-13 shear values for the thread size should probably work well.
Remember to add the friction torque to the value if using a locknut.

Being a dork, I initially torqued these to the specs for a 5/16ths bolt. I realized that was way wrong when it goobered up the washers. A call to Van's confirmed that it should be torqued for a 1/4-20.

Only cost me a few bucks to replace the bolts (which were *probably* okay, but I didn't want to take the chance).

Thanks all

What you all suggest is what I ended up doing, funny I am not patient enough to wait. But I figured the torque for a 1/4-20 course thread was so low it would not hurt anything, now to mark the nut.

She is standing now!
