Can anyone recommend a 2.25" airspeed guage in knots or knot/MPH that has appropriate speed range for a RV7 with 0360. I am planning on using 2.25" instruments as my back up to a Grand Rapids Sport EFIS.

RE: 2 1/4" Airspeed Gauge

Jeff,

I plan to go with the Grand Rapids EFIS on my RV6 and want to have standby instumentation also. Wings and Wheels Soaring Supplies at the URL below sells 2 1/4" altimeters and altimeters that might be worth considering. I don't have any experience with Winter brand instrument products but they appear to be good quality. Prices are comparable (maybe a little higher) to United Instruments pneumatic instruments.

As JD mentioned the Winter instruments (sailplane stuff) are suppose to be pretty good and will put the air speed markings on for you for less than $20.00. I am going with the GRT EFIS I set up like JD and already have the Winter instruments. I have not used them yet but they have an excellent reputation. Here is another link that has good information. They are expensive but if they are the "back up" instrument they need to be reliable. After all they are the ones that are supposed to be working when the EFIS goes belly up  in the clouds.

I have the larger version and it is nice. When mounted behind the panel it looks very nice.

Try before you buy

Jeff,

I would strongly recommend that you try flying with a 2 1/4 ASI before installing one. If your EFIS quits you will be working harder than normal, that's not the time to find out you can't read a 2 1/4" instrument too well. Personally I think 3 1/8 with only on set of numbers around the outside (kt or mph, not both) is the way to go.

2.25" Guages

You make a good point. Although they are back ups, when the *&%# hits the fan a larger face will be better to read. I sat in the plane last night and positioned paper instruments ( Post-it notes cut to size) on the panel. I came to the same conclusion.

Thanks
