I just retired from Shell Chemical/Oil in July. They send out an alumni
newsletter every month. This month the 3rd page caught my eye.
Title: Flying on Unleaded It went on to say that after 10yrs of research,
Shell is the first major oil company to produce a avgas that will replace
the 100LL. They say it meets all key Avgas properties including a motor
octane rating over 100. Said they have been working with Lycoming and
Piper on the testing. They say now it will take 2-3 years for the final
approval process.
I would have scanned this but my scanner is on the blink.
They also did a little bragging, saying Shell Aviation is over 100yrs old,
at 800 airports in 40 countries and that somewhere, someone is refueling
with Shell every 12 seconds.
That's a lot of Avgas!

Exciting news for sure, but I'll make one correction to your report. Shell is not the first company to produce an avgas that will replace 100LL. That honor goes to Swift Fuels.
