Default FAA safety programs

I attend all the Wings pilot proficiency seminars I can. what I have noticed is 1. The average age is 55 or better. I can make a bet that there isn't anyone in attendance under 25; I am sure to win.
2. The rebels, the loud mouth know it all's are never in the audience.
3. The subject is simply getting back to basic flying fundamentals.
Have we as pilots, forgotten the basics? Do rudder paddles have a definite purpose? Is where we look, is exactly where we will land, not practiced any more. Or simple slips to a landing ever done on purpose any more? I mention slips to some pilots and I get an open mouth, blank stare.

Hey Ron, it was great to meet you the other morning! I look forward to spending more time with you guys at Carson, and I'll attend those programs with you. In my former job, we were getting training and education daily - now I am going to have to have to consciously sek it out.
