Default Proseal inside cowling

Is it okay to use proseal (or Van's newer stuff) firewall forward? I was getting a very hot cowl from exhaust pipes so I installed some heat shield and sealed the edges with proseal. I'm getting a strong smell from the installation which concerns me.

If you think you need to seal the edges of your cowl shield, you may want to try something high temp tolerant, like JB weld. The aluminum shield material I used was sticky backed and has held up well for 4 1/2 years. Proseal will soften if it gets warm enough.
