Default Weight and Balance updates??

Hi,

Could someone please tell me what needs to be done to the plane's W&B to keep the plane legal, when you swap a piece of equipment? For example, if you change a mag or starter or something like that where the weight of the new item is not the same as the old one (not to mention the fact that the item itself is different). And who can amend the W&B?

Thanks!! Andy

Default Read your operating limitations.

In most cases, you can amend our own weight & balance.
Older op lims require you to get a recurrent airworthiness inspection for significant w&b changes.
If the change is significant you must return the aircraft to phase I and flight test for a minimum of 5 hours. "Significant" means that the change will likely affect flight characteristics of the aircraft.

Thanks. I am looking at a plane that had a different oil cooler added and a modification to the tail wheel. I just wanted to be sure what I needed to see in the documents for these changes. I wouldn't consider them "significant."
