I would recommend a vertical slit at each rear corner. As you install top cowl bend the sides down first then overlap them with the rear piece. They will be stiff for the first two or three test flights, then you will be able to easily see where they are not making good contact. I check mine among other things with a mirror and flashlight on every preflight from home base. Seal all gaps with ht silicone then use a light to double check for gaps.
