Default Title Searches with Home Builts

When I bought my Cessna 150, I used AOPA's Title Search to check the history of the plane. They checked for any liens (aircraft, engine, etc), aircraft damage history and any 337's that might exist.

I am now looking to purchase a flying RV-4 by the end of the year or early next year. Is it possible to do a similar Title search and damage history report on a Home Built? With so much that can be done under the radar how do you properly check for liens and aircraft history on a Home Built?

Thanks,
Dom

The registration for a EAB isn't much different than for a certified plane, so any liens should be reported in the same manner. Also, the incident/accident reporting requirements are the same so they should also show up. However, there is a greater potential that the owner did the repairs themself and didn't report it....

Default Title Search

I just did a title search, but not on a homebuilt. I used aero-space reports in Oklahoma City. The cost was $75.00 and they returned it the same day. I don't think there would be an difference in a EAB and a certified airplane. Typically the title search does not include reports on 337's or damage history. You would need to discuss that with them. If you have an abundance of time you could order a CD from the FAA with copies of all paperwork on file.
