Default US pilots flying abroad

A number of months ago, there were some beautiful pictures on VAF from some place in Australia (something Coast, iirc). And this got me thinking, what is required for US private pilots to rent/fly abroad in countries like Australia?

I presume a standard checkride is in order from the FBO like here in the States, but what about additional paper work, permission, tests, etc, etc.

Thanks,
/\/elson

Default Flying in Australia

To fly in Oz you need to get a Special pilot Licence & undertake a local flight test.

Details are shown on this link http://www.casa.gov.au/fcl/overbr.htm#special

The cost, delays and security hysteria should be sufficient to deter anybody from applying.

Have pity on we poor sods who live here & have to put up with this ****.

Default Great Link

Hi John,

The "Special Pilot License" pdf link was exactly what I was looking for. Looks to be quite complete.

Thanks,
