Default RV safety record

I was reading an article on accident rates in the current issue of Kitplanes magazine. Good news for RV builders/pilots!
Between Jan 1 2002 and Dec 31 2004 there were 27 crashes reported for homebuilts on their first flight. Of these, only one was an RV (even though more than a third of new homebuilts are RVs).
Only about 7% of the homebuilt accidents during the nominal 40-hour test period involved an RV.
