Default An RVer and his Legal Eagle

KitPlanes magazine has graciously published in the January 2013 issue my article detailing the addition of a Legal Eagle XL ultralight to my hangar. Some RVers may be interested in reading how the Eagle complements the RV and fills in the performance envelope in the lower corners. I find the two planes to be an enjoyable combination. High, fast and low, slow.

The digital issue of KitPlanes is now available and print version should be available soon.

Sam, sounds like a great story!

I am not a subscriber but those articles sound appealing. When my Plane and Pilot subscription runs out I think I will subscribe to Kitplanes again!

Thanks Sam. I already have my plans and the cool torch you suggested. I'm afraid you are going to cost me several thousand dollars.

That really looks sweet, I want something low and slow too along with keeping my RV-6. This might just do it.

I?ve been looking at T-bird 1?s, but I really like the looks of this. Never gave much thought to a Legal Eagle, but may now. I?m already familiar with the half VW?s.

Just seems like to keep the weight under the legal 254#?s, it would be difficult to design to give it the full strength it may really need, but I?m not an aeronautical engineer and don?t really know.

Sam, I seen some clips of your bird on youtube, those are nice. I guess I learned something about taxiway landings too.

Well, I am no aeronautical engineer either but I can give first hand account to how strong and light all of this triangulated steel really is. Oh, and those wings and ribs are nothing to sneeze at either.
