Default 3/4 inch vent line gap between side skin and gear doubler

I drilled the 3/4 hole through F-970 and F-9101 tonight for the vent line. I now can see a substantial gap between these two pieces and wonder how the rubber grommet will ever fit. The rubber grommet has a very narrow slot which would fit the edge of either the F-970 or F-9101, but given I have a 4/32nds gap between them this doesn't seem feasible. This is on a QB kit.

Is this gap normal?

This gap is normal. The rubber grommet installs on whatever is thicker I believe. Need to check plans it was several years ago
