Default Elt 121.5 install
Friend of mine is in the process of getting his pink slip. The FSDO Inspector told him he cannot install an old elt in a new plane. I remember this being discussed here but could not find the thread. Any truth in what the FSDO is saying... FAR to reference.

Let us see what Mel says but there is no 406 MHz mandate to my knowledge in the USA.

Depends what he means by "old". ELTs meeting TSO c-91 may no longer be installed. TSO C-91(a) is okay. This means older than about 1985, for the manufacture date.

Obvious difference is C-91(a) units have a remote, panel mounted indicator and operating/reset switch.
