Default help w/protective covering

I have recently bought a 2nd hand rv-8 kit. It might be pretty old because the protective coating that is on the sheet metal (blue kind) peels off really easy but the (white type) is all cracked and flakey and won't peel off at all. I am sure this is not the first time this has happened, any tricks to get it off easier

Try using a heat gun to soften the adhesive a bit.
