Question Storing an engine on an engine stand...

OK, try this again!

I have what looks like a custom engine stand for a Lycoming engine (my O-320). Got it from a Helo guy.

It looks like a regular automotive engine stand, but you bolt the propeller flange to the engine stand. So the engine is horizontal, hanging on the prop side of the engine crankshaft.

Can I use this stand for long term storage? Can the engine hang horizontally on the crankshaft for a long period of time? A year?

Thanx!

Default Vertical for short period, upside down horizontal for longer

I think the prevailing wisdom is vertical for a short period of time. Like this:

But for longer-term storage, make a wood cradle to hold the engine upside down. Then fill it with oil to keep the cam and other parts submerged.
