Default Longer MD36-14m push rod bearing?

Here is the situation. Elevators... (RV-7) When I do the required 7/8" pushrod spacing from the (Drawing 5) I get a hole on the elevator horn that is too close to the round connecting rod. Spoke to Van's and they say the 7/8" is that way for "safety" of the length of the push-rod. So it works great at 1". I know this 1/8 of an inch is not a problem for the elevator but it is a little to close on the safety margin for the push-rods for me. So I want a longer one. Do anyone know of one? The MD36-16M is all the same dimensions EXCEPT it's wider (at the bearing)by 1/16. Is this still an acceptable substitute?
