Default NGK BR8ECM or BR8ES?

When I Google for the NGK equivalent of Denso W24EMR-C, I see charts saying the equivalent is BR8ECM. But I've seen various threads here saying people are using BR8ES. What's the difference?

A quick Google search gave me this thread on on a motorcycle board:

Apparently it is a "Compact Head" plug - many of the commenters weren't impressed with it....
